Hello everyone,

To make things short.. basically, I suspect that my Linksys E2500 router is the cause of my super slow download speeds. After connecting directly to my modem and router and then speed testing, I've discovered that my router is probably the cause of it. When I'm connected to the modem, my download speed is at 27 mbps, while with the router it sits at 7 mbps.

I've tried searching everywhere for a solution, but I've yet to find one so I have come here in hopes of getting it fixed.

So far, I've tried upgrading my firmware, but I can't go past version 1.0.07 since it always says "Update Failed". I've also tried disabling my QoS but it makes the connection even slower.

Please help! :(

What exactly does doing a 30/30/30 hard reset do? Does it just restore my router to the factory settings allowing me to successfully update the firmware to the latest version?

Yes, it is a hard reset and I always do one prior to flashing dd-wrt firmware onto a router. It is also useful on routers with dd-wrt firmware, and HERE is some detail on it.

I use dd-wrt on many of my router installs as it has lots of extra features and seems much more reliable than the OEM stuff. You always have the option of going back to Linksys firmware later though, and perhaps even would be able to update to the latest they have.
