My computer is -8 months old. It has an LG blueray disc drive. I record quite a few regular dvds and cds as I am a photographer. When I record I'll make two copies of at least 4 disc of jpeg files usually. There is almost always at least two disc that have at least one thumbnail that has not been recorded correctly. The odd thing is it is usually the second image, not always but often enough to notice. At least half of the thumbnail is grayed out. The file itself appears to be alright, just the thumbnail. At this point I am using Windows to record. I've read somewhere that this will happen if record is set too fast, so I slowed it down and do nothing else on the computer while recording. This didn't help.

My question is, anyone have any idea why the thumbnails are being messed up and how do I correct it? Is it the drive? Windows or something else?

Thanks,
Linda

The CD's and DVD's you are using are of fine quality, so that would be my preference also. Practically the list is endless and you know that. So lets come to the point straight away.

First of all I never used a Blue-ray Burner, so I am not aware of that, it could be some settings can do wonders. But if you ask me about regular ODD's(CD/DVD Drives) then I must say there is nothing to set, just plug and play.

Second thing, its unfortunate that the Nero has crashed on you, I am using that software for over 10 years and never had a problem with it. So you could give it a second chance, after all its not all that bad.

Third thing, are you sure there were no problems while coping files from Camera to PC ? Sometimes it can happen with a...

Thank you for your reply Lonewolf7

The DVDs are Verbatim+R and I've got a couple of different brands of CDs. It doesn't appear to make a difference with the brand, they are all effected indiscriminately. I used to get JVC Taiyo Yuden DVDs but have read some bad reviews on them lately. And right or wrong the last time I ordered some I got the Verbatim. Maybe I'll go back to the JVC. Do you have any preference?

Right now I'm just using Window's Explorer. I purchased Nero back in June and it crashed my system which was not fun and I couldn't get a refund on it. So I'm not sure which software I want to use.

And while I haven't resorted to the slowest speeds I've still dropped it down and still have the same results.

Third thing, are you sure there were no problems while coping files from Camera to PC ? Sometimes it can happen with a corrupt OS, or for a bad/faulty RAM. So if you didn't format your OS for a long time like 6 months, then format it and do a clean install. And check your RAM with http://www.memtest.org/

Fourth thing, if anyhow you are angry with Nero and don't want to use it further, then try http://www.filehippo.com/download_imgburn/ a best free software till now. There is another decent one named http://www.roxio.com/ you can try it too. But I have no experience with it.

A final note : You can compress the files using http://www.rarlab.com/download.htm (WINRAR) when duplicating or for the original one. This way you wouldn't loose any of your images. And you could try a regular CD/DVD burner instead of BlueRay drive, they are cheap to try. Good luck.
