Toshiba laptop, when turned on fan runs on high and screen is dark, not even a blinking cursor. There are no beep codes, no flashing lights on keyboard. Removed hard drive and slaved to a healthy pc and hard drive is recognized, however library folders are gone (no documents, pictures, music, etc.). Kaspersky had given an alert just before the computer did this.

Not sure what to do next. I have recovery disks but how do I change boot order to get laptop to boot from recovery disk when screen is dark?

I forgot to say I've already connected an external monitor to the laptop and it was dark too. However I connect a healthy laptop to the external monitor and it showed up on the screen. This is Win 7, Toshiba Satellite L655-S5116, model SK2LU-02900C. The HD is Toshiba brand 320 GB. Thanks!

"I forgot to say I've already connected an external monitor to the laptop and it was dark too so it's not the display adapter"

Your laptop's display adapter is used to provide a video signal to external monitors too, so your statement above is incorrect.

Thanks Philip. You are correct, duh. So it could indeed be 1) the screen display adapter that's bad. 2) what about the hard drive that's not showing the libraries (my documents, my pictures, etc.) when I slave it to another healthy pc? What could be going on with tht? It seems to be an unlikely coincidence that both the display would go bad, and the HD would get a virus or whatever it is, both at the same time? HELP!
