hd 7870 ghz no display

I recently bought a new sapphire HD 7870 ghz editon. But when i installed it on intel motherboard DH61WW there was no display on the screen. Is it a problem with my motherboard or Graphics card? my motherboard has PCI-E 2.0, could that be the problem as hd 7870 has pcie 3.0 .

I have updated the bios to the latest(0118) but the problem persists. Anyways I am now buying a new motherboard, will my gpu and CPU run properly on asrock z77 extreme 3
