Hi

My first post here, Looking for your help!

I have a Gigabyte MB GA MA78GM S2H ( Rev 1.1 ) and it seems dead with the regular symptoms.. No POST ( No Beep codes with the Speaker connected ) and no output from my VGA out.. All that happens is my CPU fan spins for about half a minute and shuts down.

I have taken the MB out of the case and connected the 24pin ATX supply, 4 pin CPU PS and kept only 1 ram chip in the slot.. disconnected all unnecessary peripherals and in order to rule out the power switch, would short the Power pins to start up.. But yet nothing!

I noticed on removal of CPU fan assembly that the CPU doesn't get warm at all even though the notorious NB ( AMD 780G) gets really hot as it normally does..

1) Is my CPU not receiving power? The Caps around the CPU look normal ( SS caps). Also the MOSFETS dont look harmed either.. Could they be damaged without any visible signs?

2) Is my NB the problem? I have a similar board ( Rev 1.0 ) and the NB gets as hot out there too.. So It seems normal..

3) Connected a PCI VGA ( Rage XL ) card for video and still not getting a video out.. I cant get into BIOS setting and configure the preference of video to PCI so i dunno if that's the problem..

4) Is the BIOS suspect? the Bios chip is hard soldered on the MB and so flashing ( by taking the chip out ) it is not an option ( MX-15G Bios ).. Any other ideas to this?

I have tried resetting the CMOS by removal of battery for 1 hr, resetting the jumper...

The MB looks normal with no sign of any burnt resistors, caps or chips.. I do not have any other testing equipment on me to check voltages.. Took off all the heatsinks and had a good look at it!

I can rule out the PSU, Did the PSU checks by shorting the green and Black wires, also it is working perfectly with another board.

Also the CPU ( Athlon 64 X2 4800+ ) is good..

I suspect MB and RAM but even if RAM is bad, i should get a long beep from POST on removal of it, which i didnt..

And, Can i damage a good CPU if i use it to test this board?

Also was considering a reflow by baking the board for about 4-5 mins at 200C as someone suggested online.. But saving that as the last straw!

I have seen breakthrough solutions here on this forum in the past and have used them to sort many previous issues, but now looking for a specific answer..

WHAT COULD HAVE GONE WRONG? IM SURE SOMEONE HERE WOULD HAVE A LEAD...

Solution
Extensive testing done. You pretty much covered everything.
Just check the actual power ports on the mobo itself for burning.

Hard to say, but from your saying, that mobo seems as dead as can be.

Thx Novuake for that quick reply! Yeah, but im hoping someone gives me some solution i havent yet tried... Maybe if it wont benefit me, it might just bring some more light to this problem and churn out a solution for someone else too...
