Hi , can someone help me? I wan't to upgrade my graphics card but my power supply is too weak so i saw in the ARLT computer shop in germany a combination of MSI GTX 660 and Corsair GS660 with 600W but i'm not sure if it's enough cuz the hard drive , processor and other parts take power too, so here is my specs

Processor:
AMD Athlon II -250 X2 3.0 GHz

Motherboard AMD:
Biostar; NF520D3, AM3, nForce520;

RAM:
Transcend; DDR3 4GB 1333MHz;

Graphics card:
eVGA; GeForce GT430 ; 1024MB; DDR3;

Hard disk:
Seagate; 1TB; 16MB L2 Cache ; 7200rpm

DVD Drive:
DVD-RW SATA Dual Layer

Case:
Blueberry; MidiTower; 520W;

So if someone knows if the power is enough to run everything correctly , withouth the GT 430 cuz i want to add the GTX 660 :D
please write an answer , PS: my current power supply is 520W Blueberry PSB520

Solution
GPUs don't 'lose' performance. It will just actually be able to be used to its potential once you get a new CPU.

Just to make sure you don't spend 200 Euro and get disappointed, DO NOT expect many games to improve performance alot. Some will improve a little, but no huge drastic increase will happen. Once you get a CPU however, a gtx660 will max most all games at your resolution.

At the moment i can't buy more than the MSI GTX660 and the Corsair GS600 , is that a big problem? I was in the service where i bought my computer , they said I need to replace the power supply , nothing more :S

You will be able to run games, but you will not get the best performance from the GPU. If you see some benchmarks with the gtx660 for example on BF3, ultra resolution 1080p runs with 35-40 frames, you will get 25-30. Its not a big problem but in the future update your cpu and motherboard for best results and performances

What is the problem with the motherboard?

Nope , i will buy another AM3 processor XD

Ok look, first of all, that GTX660 could EASILY run on 450w. It only needs ONE 6-[in power connector and pulls a MAX of 108w under FULL load.

Secondly, there isn't really much you can do to get a modern CPU. The AM3 socket is about 5 years old, so yes it is outdated and WILL bottleneck the 660. You bought it on the tail end of its run before they introduced the new FX series CPUs and AM3+ motherboards.

Your best bet is to look for a Phenom 2 x4 955 or something similar. It will not be bottlenecked by a 660 and perform decently in modern games. The MAX TDP of your motherboard is only 95w so MAKE SURE you don't get a 120w CPU. Get a 95w CPU.

These would be MUCH better than your current CPU.

However, It would make more sense to upgrade to a cheap AM3+ motherboard and get something like an fx4300 or fx6300. These would be WAY better than upgrading CPUs on a dead socket.

GTA 4 , Tomb Raider 2013 , Minecraft

Well ALL of those games are VERY CPU dependent. Minecraft will not improve AT ALL with the new GPU and neither will GTA. Minecraft is a CPU dependent game. I run it the same with my i5 on integrated graphics and with my 2x gtx560s. Exactly the same. GTA is very similar is being VERY CPU dependent. Tomb Raider is definitely bottle necking on the CPU a substantial amount as well.

For those games you NEED a better CPU.

And if I don't have money at the moment and I will upgrade the cpu about 5 months after buying the card , is it going to perform like without bottleneck or is it going to stay slow even after the upgrade?
