Well, we all know about the Nvidia price cuts, now i ask, for running a single card (no crossfire or Sli in mind yet) which one is the better buy, the Gtx 780 or the R9 290x? I have seen AMD has a lot of problems and quite a few Doa and faulty cards and faulty drivers, where as Nvidia keeps a good reputation in Newegg with mostly 5 stars and almost no bad reviews, thats what mainly pushes me to Nvidia, any suggestions or experiences that might help in making this decision? Thanks in advance.

specs:
Nzxt Phantom
i7 4770k
ASUS Maximus VI hero Mobo
Ripjaws 16 GB RAM
Windows 8

More about : gtx 780 290x

Depends if the extra 10% power of the R290x is worth 50$ to you.

Although if you were to go for the AMD, then you would need to wait for the Aftermarket cooled card. The reference design runs hot.

If you ever plan on watercooling, go for the 290X. It overclocks like no tomorrow.

Well, i decided i should wait until the R9 290x is finally stable on the stocks (right now it goes out of stock in like 10 mins each time) and when they add a 3rd party cooler and everything looks more stable check the feed back, if its good I may consider buying it, but right now the Gtx 780 is winning, mostly because since it has been more time on the market feedback is more precise unlike the R9 thats brand new and anything could happen. Thank you for your time though :)

Weeelll its hard to say.
The Asus will definitely be cooler and quieter.(probably end up being a triple slot card too.)

I personally have always had a preference for Sapphire because they are AMDs biggest partner and get the highest binned chip...

Soooo if you want cool and quiet and don't mind 3 slot card, then Asus. If you want to overclock as much as you can, then Sapphire.

Sure, since the R9 is pretty new and the cards are, you could say, raw (i dont know the exact way to say that there has been no modding haha xD) i think that maybe by the end of november they should have custom 3rd party cards out right?

I think not. LOL
These cards are like 700-900$ here.

So if I do get one. I will be pretty happy and sad at the same time.

A hell of a lot! Its better just buying from the local bulk importers. But they ask a massive premium that just gets worse and worse the higher the range of card you are buying.

For example the HD7950 that I bought was 4800Rand, which translates to roughly like 480$. At that time you could get an HD7950 in the US for like 280$.
