no picture during boot with HD2400PRO

If the HP computer still has the factory-fitted PSU in it, more than likely it's not providing enough wattage to drive everything since you installed the HD2400. That PSU has already done six years work and factory-fitted PSUs are typically very basic and have just enough power to supply the factory hardware, that's all. They have no spare capacity for hardware upgrades.
The power is definitely not the problem. I have checked with oscilloscope and DVM and there is plenty of power. The strange is that it is working under Ubuntu but not during boot sequence. The BIOS is suspected but I am running latest version.
