How to recover my files from a failed harddrive

hey guys, my laptop hard drive has failed. it wouldn't start coz every time i open my laptop it says "error in reading the hard drive so recover file because failure is imminent" and when i proceed it suggests restart and then same thing happens. I tried to read it with other pc as external hard drive but a window pops on suggesting i format it. I really need the files stored in the drive so how can i recover it?

You may find it impossible to recover data from a failed hard drive, even recovery software won't help. In cases where the data is really important you can send the drive to a data recovery specialist but that will cost you big time.

You could have avoided being in that situation if you had backed up your data to a second hard drive. Too many computer owners unfortunately still don't think about keeping backups, or only think about it when it's too late.
