I just got BF4 and my machine aint cutting it. I did post earlier on the topic (graphics and display) and received prolly the best response which was try a new vid card(s) and see - but, well...

Ok, I play BF pretty much exclusively. OK, well that and fantasy football and of course some streaming porn, er - I mean video. My current set up is as follows (built in '08, up graded in '11);

MB; ASUS Rampage III x58
CPU: i7-950
GPU: 3x - GTX 260s in SLI
RAM; 12mb Corsair dominator 1600 (6 stix @ 2mb)
Power; Corsair 1000W (HX series)
Storage; 1TB cheap ass HD in RAID
Cooler; Corsair H70
Case: XCLIO with 150cfm flow
Display; 1 @ 1920x1080 - 1080p - 24"

My goal is to re use as much current hardware as possible however I am not sure that will pan out well for me. My budget for the build is to try and keep it south of, say $3200. but if I have to replace much if not all of what t I have now I may have to go a tad over?

Thoughts; I like INTEL and NVIDIA so will be looking at those brands, also will be an SLI configuration most likely at some point if not right out of the shoot. I have NOT played around with overclocking but intend on doing so with the new build - like ASUS boards cause they are easy to play with. I want a set up that continues to have up grade flexibility, well you know...

I have been lurking around here, reading up on new components (been a while) and think I know what direction to go but need some insight from you guys.

Thinking i5 4670K, ASUS Maximus VI extreme (Z87) cause I hear the Haswell build is solid and able to tweak. Going to throw a SSD in but need help there (Seagate 600?), Ram, total loss here - HELP, GPU, OPEN but will most likely go 2x in SLI

I know hyper threading adds little to none on todays games but what about tomorrow, should I not consider an i7 processor at all? What about the 1150 socket, will it be around for another 5 years? Did I select RAM that is suitable for todays needs, can I re use what I have? I don't know if my PS is Haswell capable, how can I tell? If I consider SLI, how far into the pocket book do I go for a hot vid set up or should I grab something like the 690 and possible add another later (cost concern). What about cooling?

This means you recycle HDDs, PSU.
You CAN recycle the RAM but then I would suggest sticking with dual channel mode, so you can only use 8GB of that RAM, that is why I added new RAM.

The I7 I added because your budget allows it and in SOME games there are some improvements.

2 x GTX780s is way better than a GTX690.

1. I would like to point out that BF4 benchmarks here at Tom's show that it's a heavily multi-threaded game, so having an i7, or even better an i7-X makes sense

2. Parts u can possibly reuse - CPU Cooler (unless u wanna go the air way), HDDs, possibly PSU (although i added a new one just for good measure)

3. The GTX 780 recently got a massive price drop, so could easily fit 2 of those and remain way under-budget

so here's the build

Ok, here's what I am thinking... Would like a second opinion before I hit the GO button. Again, looking towards the ASUS board for help in OCing.

Board; ASUS Rampage IV Extreme LGA 2011 Intel X79
CPU; i7-4930K Ivy Bridge-E 3.4GHz
Memory; G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 32GB (4 x 8GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1866. I know its not one of the recommendations but I jumped ASUS site and its on the QVL. Just trying to avoid any potential issues...
GPU; 2x EVGA ACX Cooler 03G-P4-2784-KR GeForce GTX 780 3GB 384-bit GDDR5 in SLI
Cooling; CORSAIR Hydro Series H100i Extreme Performance Water/Liquid CPU Cooler. 240mm
Storage; Samsung 840 EVO 2.5" TLC Internal Solid State Drive - Plus re using my 1TB SATA 3.5
Power; Re using my Corsair 1000W (HX series)
Case; Re use my XCLIO

Any one see any concerns here?

This keeps me under my budget and will hopefully keep me running on ultra settings for a couple of years...
