Hello everyone,

So I am coming to you guys with a question. I was wondering why my CPU gets so hot when I play BF4. I noticed it was at 68C when I was playing on High Settings and it was pretty much the same when I lowered it to medium. I thought lowering it would help but this is not the case. I know that this is super high and I could risk ruining it.

The CPU I am running:

AMD Phenom II x4 955

Is there a way to cool it down or something I am missing? I do not have liquid cooling (I wish I did) and I only use the stock heatsink. I would greatly appreciate a response back with feedback and suggestions!

Thanks,

An Avid PC Enthusiast

I suggest getting a better cooler than the stock heatsink and fan. The Antec Kuhler H2O 920 or Corsair H100i are both good closed-loop liquid cooling setups, or you can go with a Hyper 212 Evo air cooled setup for a little cheaper that would do just as well. I don't think the stock setup you have on it now is going to be able to handle cooling it when running higher-end new games at those settings. Make sure whichever cooler you choose (assuming you decide to upgrade it), that you get a good thermal paste to use with it, and that you apply the thermal paste correctly. If you want or need advice on that, let me know.

Self contained or sealed cpu coolers are easy to set up.. However with that kind of budget you may be better off getting a nice air cooler like originally suggested.

When you say that I couldnt find one for less than 100 is that in terms of one that is good quality? I have found some that are right around the range of what I am looking for:

Corsair H60

Antec Kuhler H20 620
http://pcpartpicker.com/part/antec-cpu-cooler-kuhlerh2o620

Are those bad or inadequate?

I could possibly splurge for once and get something that will be worth having around for when I eventually upgrade my CPU and everything. However, a 120mm fan seems a little on the big side. As you can see, the case that I have now (which is posted further up in the thread) has a 120mm fan on top but I have no idea where I could put the fan that comes with the liquid cooling. How does that work? Especially with the H100i that has what looks like 2 of them.

According to the link you posted on Newegg, there's a 120mm fan on the rear of the case. You would remove that fan, and replace it with the fan(s) and radiator for the liquid cooling setups. The instructions should be included with each of them (I know they are with the 920, since I have it).

okay awesome thank you for all your help. Do you, or anyone else suggest just not playing the game or anything until I get the cooling in there? or will the CPU survive another couple of days at around 68C while I play?
