hello!

The other day I got myself a nice 27" 2560x1440 monitor but now I feel my graphics card will/is starting to lack the power. I have a single evga gtx 680 SC 2gb, I like to play games at max res. I will be playing some demanding games (titanfall, black flag, watch dogs, battlefield 4) I already have battlefield 4 and my card can't hack the ultra settings maybe some better drivers but I still think I'll need a new one. I have an overclocked i5 3570k and a board supporting sli/xfire.

First I would *prefer* to stay with nvidia but im open. I only have a 650w psu so I know I may have to upgrade that too. my choices are..

get another gtx 680 and sli (but will the 2gb be enough anymore?)
get 2 gtx 770 in sli 4gb? quite expensive option I think
one gtx 780 or wait to see the ti version and no new psu (heard some people say 680 up to 780 aint worth the cost)
some amd config (last resort)
OR stop spending my money all the time!

..there's also the possibility of just waiting for maxwell

thanks in advance for any help!

Do you have a budget? Does the mobo support SLI?
I can list some thing when i have the budget.
2GB should still be enough for 1440p but 3gb is nicer to have.
you would not need to upgrade the cpu any time soon its still pretty good

A 2560 x 1440 monitor has more pixels and may not need high levels of aa to look good.
I would first experiment with that.

If you go sli, you are also looking at a 800w+ psu replacement.

With the current price drop of the GTX780, I would consider a GTX780 with a factory overclock.
The titan does not seem worth it unless the price drops.
It might be good to wait a bit and see what the GTX780ti offers.
Your psu should be good for any single card.
As to vram, I don't think it matters much.
Read this: http://www.pugetsystems.com/labs/articles/Video-Card-Performance-2GB-vs-4GB-Memory-154/

I also run a 1440p monitor using a single 7970 right now, I found that turning down/off AA really helps with fps and doesn't detract very much from the quality because the pixels are so small.

Being that the 680 is only 2GB it's hard to recommend picking up a second one unless you can get a really nice deal on one. Buying one new is too expensive for what you get in my opinion. I know you prefer to stay nvidia but the 290x really is a killer card, I would wait for ones to come out with a different cooler because they run hot but the price to performance is pretty awesome. The 780ti I think will be too much money for what you get, it would need to be better than the 290x which is already stronger than the titan.

SLI 770s would give you really good performance but really expensive, the 780 is probably your best bet if you don't want to go with AMD and down the road you could drop a second one in.

1. gtx 680 2gb is pretty small (especiall the 2gb) 2. like that 3. gtx 780 is nice and would work okay, but you need a power supply upgrade, same with the gtx 680
My answer:if you feel rushed, like you have to buy something now, just get the 2 gtx 770's and then you aready have a better card then the titan. Also i would reccomend a 750-800W power supply if you like the config i offered. But if you wait a day or two, i bet someone will post another option :)

just throwing it out there. my bud runs bf4 on ultra everything with his gtx 760 with 100% render with 60+fps but as soon as he turns it up to 200% its around 15-20fps. get a card with 3gb+

dude.....i was wondering the same thing i mean he has the acx cooler but that shouldnt mean to much. this is his build-amd 8350 stock speeds. 2gb acx gtx 760. 8gb g.skill 1333. asus mobo nothing fancy. 500gb WD 7200rpm drive.

wow thanks for all the quick responses :) I took some of your advice, taking battlefield 4 as example I have all settings set to ultra but turned it down to x2 MSAA and SSAO not HBAO, dont know the exact frame rates but its smooth as anything (without v-sync) tbh I just went by geforce experience settings which was prob a bad idea.

so I don't think I will need to sli, a gtx 780 or ti will do me...if I have enough power.

I know they recommend a minimum of 600w...and mine is 650w is that too close? they prob give you a bit of headroom, but I have an overclocked i5 with a corsair h100, 2 HDDS 2 SSD (neither in a raid set up) and a sound card. I'm really hoping to avoid a psu upgrade because that's another £100 =(
