Newegg says I'll need 1264 watts for the rig I want.

maximus v formula
I7 LG1155 (3770K) [already have]
2 standard 7200RPM HDD[already have]
4 8Gb Corsair Vengeance 1600 DDR3 [already have 1 stick]
1 Blu Ray Drive
3 way SLI Asus GTX 780

I want to liquid cool it eventually and have a few small external plug in's like cameras and wireless controller adapters etc. So I guess my questions are:
1.) is 1300 watts enough or should I aim higher? [ I will be over clocking ]

2.) recommended PSU?
[If possible i'd like it to match the black/red color scheme in my pc.]

1) Cooler Master Silent Pro Gold 1200 watt power supply - this should be good enough for your setup. As per here:

http://us.hardware.info/reviews/4632/32/geforce-gtx-700-series-sli-review-geforce-gtx-760770780-in-sli-and-3-way-sli-energy-consumption

2) As above. If it doesn't fit your color scheme you could opt for something else - although that might add a price premium.

3) Do you really want tri-sli? Will you be using high resolution screens? Is this for gaming or something else?

4) Scaling with the 780GTX is not very good after 2 GPU's depending on the application/game.

Basically - I wouldn't recommend 3 way SLI with the 780, getting 10-20 more FPS IMO is not worth $500+ (not to mention the heat and noise they would output).

If you are spending that much, the R9 290X's scale better currently :

Take a look at the review.

You have a problem with the triple SLI. Your processor only has 16 lanes of PCI-E 3.0. So when you go with dual cards, each one runs at X8 which is not so bad, a loss of about 5%. That's why when you see SLI/CF reviews, they always use one of Intel's 2011 chips that have X40 lanes. So, if you put three 780's on your system, they will be running at X8 X4 X4. Those two cards running at X4 will be notably slower so you will get very little extra performance for that third card. You have two choices, One, get a motherboard with a PLEX chip that will multiplex the PCI-E bus for you which will speed things up. Or you can go with a 2011 Intel chip.

An ASUS motherbord with a PLEX chip would be

I already have the motherboard. I was going to upgrade to a 4th gen cpu later. I'm not buying these all at once either. I'm a game developer and I will be making games for 4k+ resolutions. I tend to do editing while testing at the same time so I need as much boost as possible. There will be overclock on the processor for sure and possibly on the gpu (i hear 780's don't OC so well). Thing is, I would have loved to get Titans if it wasn't for the price. ALSO, heat isn't so much a concern because I wil liquid cool this too.

I know that I will need a minimum of 1300 watts for sure. I don't know if i should go higher though. Also, I'm staying with Nvidia because I'm liking the streaming stuff they are doing with the shield. Besides, amd's pair better with amd's and intel pairs better with nvidia.

After reading your note here, things change. Please give as much information as possible up front, saves us all time.

First of all, you are going to need some video RAM. At 4K displays, I'd say 4GB is a minimum. Also you do want Nvidia for you can do the auto record function with no loss of speed. Frankly, I'd go with three or even four GTX 770's with 4GB RAM.

Suddenly that 6GB of Titan memory looks awfully nice. . . .

It's mentioned in my first post except the 4th gen cpu. I just realized can't even do that because of the socket type. Does it make any difference that it is an ivy bridge and not a sandy? and why gtx 770's vs gtx 780's? 780's are almost at par with the titan in performance. If they are in sli why do I need more than 3 gb per card?

At present, the 4K displays already use 3GB of ram. You really need at least 4GB. When you run out of video ram the FPS really drops.

RAM does not add with SLI or CF. One card acts like the master and the other cards feed it. So the master card will soon fill up its RAM while the other cards will be wasting their RAM. Basically, a SLI or CF system will simply act like a faster version of the card with the same amount of RAM as a single card.

Hmm. Since the gtx 780 ti gets released next Thursday, should I then wait for that because it will have a 3, 6, or 12 gb ram option. There are rumored speacial editions too.

If I were to buy say a 12gb and a 3gb, could I use those together still?

Thank you for that link. Any advice on the power supply. Anyone?

max is pretty close to what I'll be running it at. hmm... I guess I will be starting over with my build down the road. So lets do this. If I want to have 4 gtx 780 ti cards and a Republic of gamers next gen mother board what would be an Ideal set up? I'd like to have a 4k possibly 6k ready rig that will just absolutely destroy everything that it plays(in a good way). I'm buying the parts one at a time so money isn't too much of a concern. If possible I'd like a sick color scheme.

*EDIT* oh and I might have a go at bitcoin mining. I know that nvidias aren't ideal for that, but oh well. So it will be cranked up some times

Earth to Starkium, don't bother with bitcoin mining. Nividias never did do good with it and you will spend far more on electricity than on getting any money from bitcoin. Back a few years ago you could of put your old AMD cards on it and make a few hundred a month. Those days are long gone. Now, even if you would buy the hardware that is a dozen times faster than a R9 290X, it still wouldn't make any real money.

Forget about three or four cards unless you either get a 2011 package Intel or a motherboard with the plex chips, like the Asus WS for the 1150 packages.

I do want a few cards because it will last me a bit longer. Bitcoin is kind of pointless right now isn't it.

Yes, bitcoin has come and gone. There is some sort of new bitcoin type is thing starting. No telling how good it will be/is.

My point is with a 1150 type Intel socket you will be choking the video cards if you have three, and especially if you have four. You simply will not get much more speed over just two cards. You need either the 2011 socket Intel, or the plex motherboard for 1150.

Can you recommend a republic of gamers motherboard and intel i7 combo I should get then? I at least want to have CPU clock speeds in the mid 4ghz range when OCed. I want my gpu's to have plenty of room to gallop. :) I still want to liquid cool it so if the mobo has built in cooling pipes that would be a great bonus.
