my laptop screen is black yet power is on

I recently sent my laptop away as it had blue screen and could not restore to factory settings and even laptop tried to fix itself but was unable . Only 11 months old so sent back to Samsung , one week later returned but now it has a black screen but power button is blue and it sounds like its running for about 5 seconds then all goes quiet . Any ideas ??

Could be the monitor or display. Also sounds like it could be some kind of error on Samsung's part though if you just got it back like that. I would send it right back because its hard to find and fix a problem like that unless you have the equipment and know how to do so. Also its better to take advantage of the warranty if there is one. Although you could try connecting a tv or separate monitor through one of the ports on the laptop. it should have vga or hdmi

Edit: yes, if it's under warranty, TAKE ADVANTAGE, that's what it's for!!

if you're comfortable with opening it up:

Power it off completely, unplug it, take battery out, then open the panel for the RAM, and remove all the ram. Then with the battery still out, plug the power cord in, and push the power button, the computer should beep at you, because of having no RAM. If it does not, then something's wrong with Motherboard or Processor (there's a chance that Clearing the CMOS could help at this point)

to clear CMOS on MOST laptops:

unplug power cord, remove battery, HOLD power button for at least 15 seconds (usually 30 or more) this SHOULD clear the CMOS, then put everything back, and see if there's any change
