R9 280X Underperformance

Ok so my PC build: http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/1QZNe is performing worse in games, for example planetside 2 where it gets 20-50 fps on medium constantly. My friend who runs a 7870 Ghz and an fx 6350 gets better frames at higher settings in every single game we test and honestly I'm stumped as to why since my rig is more powerful. Could anyone suggest why this might be happening and how I could fix it? Thnx.

Gonna sound like such a PC noob here but... how do I look at the CPU/GPU temps? This is the first PC I've ever built so you know...

Download a program called CORETEMP for the CPU and a program called MSI afterburner for the GPU.

CPU temp: 15-25°C
GPU temp: 38°C with just google chrome open

You need to test them under load. Run Planetside 2 for a while and see what the max temp is.

CPU: 19 - 46
GPU: 58
After 15 mins of Planetside 2 on Ultra at 1920x1080 where it was getting about 20fps

Those temps are good. Have you correctly installed the AMD drivers?

You never installed the GPU drivers? That is your problem. You have to install the graphics card driver software and install it all.

Go here and download the correct drivers. http://support.amd.com/en-us/kb-articles/Pages/latest-catalyst-windows-beta.aspx It is the first of the 3 orange links.

I'll try but I do think I installed the beta6 drivers a few days ago and after I did the Asus CPU-Z that came with my mobo recognized my card as a R9 200 series not a 7900 series as it originally did but yeah I'll try these

Is it only this game your having performance issues with ? a guy recently on here had performance issues due to a throttling issues.

goto AMD Catalyst Control Centre / Performance / AMD Overdrive / and try adding 20% more power to the card manually.

EDIT: i'm going to install this and see how it fares.

Well I haven't had mush chance to test a lot of games but I have tried FC3 Blood Dragon which runs somewhat well, Minecraft which runs well of course, TF2 also running pretty nice but my friend still runs them better on a 7870 and fx6350 which just baffles me

let me know how if adding more power to the card helps (not that you should have to!) but it rules out the power scenario.

to clarify, your temps are fine, your Power supply is fine, the drivers are fine.

is it possible the pcie 2.0 could be causing this?

I doubt it, this is really beginning to annoy me, 20fps in many places on PS2 where I should have 60+

do you have onboard gfx? is it disabled via bios?
