I just got a Radeon HD 7970 in the mail and hooked it up. However, the display didn't show anything. It didn't even pick up the fact that my computer was on and connected, so it stayed in 'power-saving mode'.

Previously I had the PC working, of course. It was running off of Intel HD Graphics. Now after plugging in the card, and putting in the HDMI, nothing.
The weird part is that even if the HDMI cable is plugged into the MOTHERBOARD, the monitor does nothing. However if the GPU is not connected, it works fine. Am I missing something simple or is my GPU dead?

Asus Z77 sabertooth is my motherboard.
