Upgrading from 7770 CF?

Solution

HI - the issue isn't getting better perf than 2 7770's, it'd doing it for $300. A 7970/280x will offer some perf increase.
I suggest stay with the 2 7770's or spend the xtra for a 290x or gtx 780 single card solution.

Look at what you can sell the 7770's for & add to you $300 budget n see if you can get a higher end single GPU which still leaves you an upgrade path if you find you want more.

7770's in crossfire are typically about as fast as a stock 7870.

Here is a 3DMark Fire Strike comparison between 7770's in crossfire @ stock speeds and a 7870XT (7930).

7770's - 4379 - http://www.3dmark.com/fs/1077177
7870XT - 5890 - http://www.3dmark.com/fs/265481

I took my 7770 into work today because my work computer's single 7770 wasn't cutting it in BF4 multiplayer yesterday. I decided to do a benchmark just to see the difference. While the 3DMark numbers aren't vastly different, playing games surely is. BF4 was on a mix of medium and high settings and averaging around 50fps @1080p on the 7770s. I get better fps on Ultra settings with my single 7870XT.

If you upgrade, go to either a 7970/R9-280X/GTX770 card. Otherwise, you might feel like you wasted your money.

ok so i went with a XFX R9 270x and it kicks ass, sold my 7770s and didnt have to spend hardly any cash out of pocket. I am now happily and easily playing bf4 online on ultra with 65 fps. Will be picking up another card to cf in the near future...
