Alright, so I got this 3 tb external harddrive about 2 years ago and I often transfer lots of video files and game files back and forth and several times has it fallen from a feet or two.

I'm running a super laptop and the external harddrive can transfer files really quickly like 100 gb in 30 minutes or even faster.

But a while ago, I tried moving 10 mb from my external harddrive to my computer and it stopped at 10 minutes and didn't go. I thought it was lagging or some power is dying, so I got pissed off and stopped using it.

Today, I want to get back to using it, so I plugged it into the outlet and into my computer. I hear it making these noises and also the light is on.

The computer detects it like I can safely remove it in the bottom right hand corner.

But it does not appear in My Computer

In device manager, the driver is there and if I delete it, it will install it the next time I plug the usb cord into my laptop.

But it just doesn't show up in my computer.

So I looked at many websites and they said to go to my computer>manage>disk management and check stuff.

Only one close to being it is this blank one with status called HEalthy (OEM PArtition) and is blank where all the others says ntfs.

The thing is that every time I enter disk management, this small window pops up saying something about initializing disk 1, but google says it will wipe the data off disk 1 and i think that is why the computer isnt recognozing my external harddrive probably because of dropping it several times or not using the safely remove hardware many times so it got corrupted.

Any thoughts on this? I really don't want to wipe the data. It's 3 terabytes and none of the harddrivesi n the disk management show something with that great of value.

You really only have two options. Try the HDD on another computer and see if you can access the files. If you cant, it is likely the HDD that is having problems.

The only thing you can really do to try to recover the data from here is to take apart the HDD and see if you can get the bare drive connected to some computer. It could be that the connector isnt in the right way and replugging it in will fix it. If this doesnt work, it looks like your hard drive is done for....
