Dell Optiplex GX620 SFF Pentium D heatsink upgrade?

I have a pentium d 945 3.4 ghz in my dell optiplex gx620 sff but the fan is spinning like crazy, also temps do not show up on any program. I wanted to know the model name of the copper heatsink for this if there even is one for the dell optiplex gx620 sff.

  1. Well here's your cpu http://ark.intel.com/products/27520/Intel-Pentium-D-Processor-945-4M-Cache-3_40-GHz-800-MHz-FSB

The socket it uses is PLGA775. You would need to find a heatsink which is compatible with this socket.

Just a question: do you clean the inside of your pc from dust regularly?
  2. Actually no, I should clean the dust out. The fan started acting like this when I upgraded from a pentium 4 to pentium d.
Can the dell optiplex gx620 sff use aftermarket heatsinks?

As long as it fits inside of the case and both the cooler and motherboard use the same socket, yes.

When you changed CPU's did you clean off and reapply thermal paste?
  4. Yes I used some micro fiber cloth and applied some silver thermal paste (not artic silver).

    Alright, good.
  6. So i should just clean out the dust and maybe buy a better heatsink?
