Is there any difference in these cards besides the price gap?

Solution
it will say in the description when you go to the manufacturers site. your unlikely to find such on a retailers site unless they are pushing the differences to sell a model thats nearly out of cycle. check out the description for the aries 2 on the asus site to see what i mean.
"Acclaimed DIGI+ VRM joins superior quality 20-phase Super Alloy Power for precise digital control, enhanced performance, reliability, and card longevity"

which is different to the refrence hd 7970x2... things to look out for that are just hype...
back plate allows mofsets to run 7% cooler pretty much any backplate on the gfx card will help cool the mofsets...
twin ball bearing fans for quiet operation... in comparison to what? a lawn mower?... look up...

Really no one, myself included is going to click all those links to compare cards. Including a description will get you a lot more help ;)

Thanks for the help everyone. But, how do I check the reference?

twin ball bearing fans for quiet operation... in comparison to what? a lawn mower?... look up fluid dynamic bearings and you find they are quieter and last longer. basically what you will find in a lot of cards descriptions are sales hype and semantics while the stand outs will let you know exactly what there differences are that separate them from the crowd.
as a rule of thumb if you see 1 card thats the same tier (say a 780) that costs 500 bux and another that costs 650, look at the fine print to see if theres any real difference in the actual components not the coolers.
i would also recommend you check out jj from asus as he explains the differences in power delivery cos not all mofset designs are equal...

http://youtu.be/aK8lyr9MV7A

just 1 of his overviews. but he does explain the basics of a custom design.
