So... I'm considering the possibility of running the core of my system on my main PSU and having a "dedicated" PSU for my GPUs.

Anyone see an issue w/this? Is it even possible?

It's possible, but there is no good reason to do so. You can get a single PSU with higher amperage and wattage to give the same effect.

It's possible. People have done it.
People have also blown up their systems trying to do it.

I'd just go with an appropriate size PSU.

Its definitely possible, but I dont see any reason to do it. You can get 1300W PSU's now, unless your doing something extremely abnormal I cant see how you could need more than that.

My primary reason for asking is that I just bought a new Seasonic G650 PSU but might be adding on to the system and replacing the brand new PSU with a 800-1000W doesn't make as much financial sense as adding a 2nd one, but if it's a pain, I'd rather spend the $$.

Efficiency is also better with a single power supply compared to TWO power supplies.

I think it would be awful bad luck to damage a system with the multi psu route, but single is almost always a better option with the current power supplies on the market.

Due to the price, I think you'll find that one large PSU will be much more cost effective, especially once you get into using good 80+ certified supplies.

My Seasonic is 80+ gold. I'll probably upgrade to another SS with closer to the 1000W range.

Thanks for the help, all.
