Hi all,
I'm currently using a Radeon Vapor X 7950 with a Packard Bell Viseo 230ws. Recently I have been thinking about changing the monitor and was looking into the BenQ XL2420T. Do you guys think I would notice an upgrade in visuals over my current display? I have no need for 3D so I'm wondering if my 7950 is capable of getting the best out of this monitor? Any help or suggestions for a good monitor for my card would be greatly appreciated!

Jim

Your going from a TN 1080p to a TN 1080p screen, so in terms of visual quality there wont be that much of a difference. The BenQ will likely be better just due to it being a higher end product, but nothing too great I think.
The real difference is that the BenQ runs at 120hz, which will really make a difference if you can keep a consistent 80+ FPS and your into reflex driven games (twitch shooters like COD or something).

If your more into strategy/ dont think your 7950 can maintain that high a framerate or want that better visual quality, going for a 1440p IPS screen might be a better option.

Thanks for the reply manofchalk! I've just been looking at some IPS screens and the Dell Ultrasharp U2412M seems pretty good. I mostly play shooters and while I do play online I'm mainly looking for picture quality. Also I've read that the longer response time on the IPS isn't very noticeable?

The BenQ monitor is 120hz and can display very fast and fluid images when you are getting much higher than 60fps. It's good for 3D gaming and shooter games where you need low input lag and fast image response.

However you are unlikely to get the frames required to benefit from the faster monitor with a 7950 doing high/ultra in the latest games.

So yea an IPS monitor might be what you want. They produce a wider range of colors and look absolutely beautiful. Put one beside a TN panel and the difference will be obvious. However they are not as fast as TN panels and cannot produce deep blacks due to bad contrast ratio. If you dont play those fast twitchy games or horror games with all the dark scenes, you probably won't notice it.

The Dell Ultrasharps are great! I'm using a 23" U2312HM which is only slightly smaller than the U2412M but a lot cheaper :)
