Displayport 1.2 vs HDMI 1.4?

Which one would be better to use? I have a 27" asus 1440p monitor and will be buying a gtx 780ti in a few days, which cable should I use and why?

There really is no difference besides the following:
1. Displayport = designed by VESA to be used for computer systems.
2. HDMI = brought about for the use of home entertainment systems.

My system allows me both options and ideally they compliment each other but with both connected I'm unable to discern the difference in output. You should be fine either way as they are not going away any time soon.
BTW, I use displayport because the cable came with the system.
