Huge FPS drop in some games GTX 660

Hey guys, I recently bought this rig only a month ago, and it runs poorer than my older in some respects regarding a few games that I play. Its really frustrating since I recently just bought this computer to run the newer games out there.

My specs are:
GTX 660
Intel Core i5-4670 @ 3.4GHZ
8.00gb RAM
Windows 7 Home Premium

When I run Crysis 2, I can max everything out fine and run it smoothly over 50 fps, however when I try running a less demanding game like Dota 2, the FPS is at 120 for a few minutes, then significantly drops between 20 and 70 fps. I'm not sure why this is happening and any help would be much appreciated. Thank you :)

It is possible that this is a problem that is specific to that game: http://dev.dota2.com/showthread.php?t=84120

Thats what I though at first, however this happens in a few other games that I play as well. It tends to happen occasionally in Burnout Paradise, and there is major FPS lag in Rome 2 Total war, even on the lowest settings. Even in Counter Strike Source (which was released in 2004 or even before that) I get major FPS drops down to 10 fps.
