I was talking to the ASUS rep about my motherboard and about the problem I have with my custom built computer (freezes with buzzing sound during gaming or watching videos) and he said that 9 times out of 10, the problem is the hard drive with either the SATA controller on the motherboard, the SATA wire itself or just the HDD. Is this true?

It could be the MB also. Check it by taking all RAM sticks out of the MB. Start the PC. If you hear any beeping sound then the MB is probably ok, if not sounding then its faulty.

Check your HDD with : http://crystalmark.info/software/CrystalDiskInfo/index-e.html

Another thing to check is RAM : http://www.memtest.org/

It could be your GPU too. And there is no way to test it, unless you manage to borrow it from someone. Good luck.
