Cooling solutions for AMD 965 BE

Hey guys. Looking to upgrade the cooler for my 965 BE. I am currently running the stock one that came with my Asus CM1630, which was cooling an Athlon II X2 220 before the upgrade. Amazingly, it somewhat cools this higher wattage CPU under it's max safe temp (Gotta love Asus)! That being said, under full 100% load, it will come very close to that max safe temp. Prime 95 got it to 59 to 60 degrees, and some games will get it to 58 to 59 degrees, with stock clocks. Idles at about 38 to 40 degrees. At full load the fan is extremely loud too! Actually drowns out the dual fans on my GPU sometimes.

I'm looking for a smaller CPU cooler that will fit in my case, it is a mid case, but being an OEM one, it isn't very wide, so a 120mm cooler is not gonna fit. I'd feel much better if my temps would be about 10 degrees below the max safe temp. Also, would really like a cooler that mounts properly, i.e. not exhausting the hot air upwards. Any opinions and advice are very much appreciated!

I think one of the low profile CM's will be the best performance (esp combined with side intake being there) though they are pricier than the TX3

5.5inches will only be 139mm, which cannot fit the TX3 (exactly 139mm), while the Zalman is 136mm which can barely squeeze in

5.75 inches is 146mm which is minimal but okayish for the TX3
Will it fit a 92mm cooler? Best to know clearance limits of your case first before deciding on a cooler

Here are some smaller (92mm) coolers

Here are a few low profile ones that should fit if the 92mm ones don't

http://pcpartpicker.com/part/cooler-master-cpu-cooler-rrg52418pkr1

In your case though, you'll want something that exhausts the air to the rear where your rear fan will pull it away

It will be better to know how wide the case is,but my options,
two stil 120mm coolers but quite a bit lower than others and they, imo, would even fit most oem cases if the specs are atx,
http://pcpartpicker.com/part/thermalright-cpu-cooler-ts120mbw =145mm high.
http://pcpartpicker.com/part/zalman-cpu-cooler-cnps10xoptima =152mm high.
and a low profile cooler,

I looked at these two things and thought that my choices would do good regardless of the price,i didn't see a specific budget.
The zalman is probably pushing it,but the other two should fit imo and they have a good mounting mechanism. The thermalright will blow to the rear of the case.
Then again with the low profile ones you don't have to worry about that.

I had an Antec Kuhler 620 on my 965 BE. It is a very good cooler, especially for the price. Kept that chip cool, even when overclocked to 4.2GHz.

Now that cooler is on my FX 6300, and keeping it cool at 4.9GHz :D.

Hmmm all very good options it seems. So far I'm leaning towards the zalman or hyper tx3. Those low pro ones look nice too though. Measured the rough internal width and came up with about 5.5 to 5.75 inches (somewhere close to that) from the bottom of the stock heat sink to the side cover. I think any of those 92mm ones will fit , will probably have to remove the side intake fan I have on there, but it would be worth it I'm sure. As far as liquid cooling goes, that will be going in my new rig, which I will be assembling soon, hopefully.

Anyways, I think I'm gonna go with the cnps5x or hyper tx3 as they seem to be the same basic thing, and roughly the same size. Thanks for the input guys!

Yea, I agree with you there. The only thing about those is it looks like most of them would cover my Ram slots, which kind of sucks. That Cooler Master Gem II s524 looks like it mounts offset though, is that so it won't cover Ram?

That CM one should clear my Ram then, they are Corsair Vengeance series. They have small heat sinks on them, but not much taller than standard Ram. What kind of temperature drops should I experience with that cooler?
