Hi Guys,
I have done a lot of research on this and still not able to solve my issue.
So basically I have brought a graphics card, specifically geforce 210.
I have put this into a machine that runs windows xp 32 bit. However, when I connect a HDMI cable between the tower and the TV, I get the picture perfectly but no sound.
When i check device manager the card is installed correctly, and no issue with drivers appear. Many have suggested, right clicking the volume control and clicking on playback options. This is windows xp so I do not have this option. I have also checked the sounds option in control panel. I have unticked use default devices and I have checked the audio tab and only realtek audio appears as an option, again no other devices apper under the sound option in device manager.
I tried downloading the sound driver from nvidia and the exe shot a message on screen saying there was a compatability issue.

I have tested the card in anothher machine, albeit windows 7 and the sound came straight on. I have now tested another graohics card in the windows xp machine, specifically an ATI 4300/4500 and again I have the same issue of picture and no sound, with no options in the sound options to change to a different device or hardware in the device manager without a driver.

I have come to the conclusion that without using a cable from the speaker output jack to the TV I have no chance of getting sounds. So can someone tell me if they believe say upgrading to windows 7 may fix the issue or is it just that motherboard specifically is too old to deal with sound over HDMI.

There is no other audio device showing other than the on board one. There is no hardware showing without a driver. The card works on another machine.

Strange! Driver not fully installed? http://nvidia.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/2593

Unfortunately still no solution. But it's a great article. I have read further and there are a few people mentioning UAA bus controller which apparently did not ship with xp sp3 I have tried this also and still no other Audio options or hardware showing signs of issues. Again the card does work in another machine. The article confirms the 210 has Audio built in to the gpu and as I mentioned the card does work on another machine albeit on a windows 7 os. I have literally gone bald because of this. I have a few other towers lying around so I'll start testing another mother board. I think this is the only route at the moment
