at this very moment R9 290X is better than a 780, 290X is kind of Titan level equipment... seems like 780TI will be somewhat better than 290X, lets say a refined Titan...

well this is just a rumour afaik...

Either wait for the 290X aftermarket fans from Asus or Gigabyte or get the GTX780.

The 290X is worth the wait in my opinion.

Its a good card but NOT WORTH THE PRICE! For the price of that you can get a much better GPU. I was like you. I loved Nvidia but the prices are ABSURD for performance. Get the R9 290x. But dont get the reference one. Get the one thats by like ASUS,MSI etc. Mid november is when they should come out. Dont make this mistake!!

I suppose if you got to spend $500 by November 5th, then yes a GTX 780 is the best you can get.

But when it hits $550 you can get the R9 290X which is clearly superior.

You're making a big mistake!!! Just get a 290x. You know what? Get what you want. But you're wasting money on something thats not worth the price. Its a good GPU but Nvidia = APPLE. Good stuff, over priced.

AMD = Android. Good stuff for a good price.

Now I am not bias. I think the GTX 690 is amazing and all. But

NVIDIA= APPLE Good stuff, overpriced
AMD = ANDROID Good stuff, good price

I am not bias at all but when it comes down to these two.

THE 290x is better, newer, faster, more Ram.

Do what you want. But don't come back to us saying that its our fault when you notice the mistake you made :(

Never get a GPU that has a new version coming out....780ti is coming out and no one will care about the 780.

well i just though of something. the hd 7990 is pretty cheap atm so if you really don't want an reference cooler you can just get the hd 7990 also reference cards are useually better because if you would ever want to watercool you can put a block on it no problem. So i would say get the r9-290x or an hd 7990 o and don't forget the r9-290x has something called quiet mode.

I don't believe getting the 780 is a big mistake at all , it's still a great card at 500 bucks, it runs much quieter and cooler than the 290X and it overclocks well. Sure the 290X is faster but it runs quite hot and loud.

well final answer in your topic is R9 290X... You ask which is better (if u see that vs in the title) so the answer is the R9 290X 1-0 for the 290x. Now about the temperatures... guys did you know that the R9 290x is DESIGNED to run at 95 degrees? So there is no complete problem running it that way. sure the GTX 780 is running at lower degrees but since the 290x was DESIGNED that way there is no problem. 2-0 for the 290x. About price to perfomance ratio you said they have the same price in your country so the answer is still the R9 290X 3-0 for the 290x. About noise levels. the 290x is louder but if you are patient enough you could wait for the non reference coolers to arrive in about week and there will be no problem there. But you said you want to have decided what to pick until 5nov and cause up to that time the 290x non reference models would have not been released (especially in israel) here the gtx 780 wins the fight. 3-1 for the 290x. So i think you got your answer now...

I think 4gb 770s in sli are going to be the best option for the money. Of course you need to deal with having 2 cards but that isn't a problem for most people setups that are considering high end cards. I am using 670s in sli and it is an awesome setup. My only complaint is I didn't get 4gb cards and BF4 is breaking the 2gb barrier even on single 1920x1080/1200 monitors.

That is true Mirakledba. I was just giving him another option to consider. Between the 780 and 290x I would agree the 290x is the better card but I would only consider the 290x once the aftermarket coolers are available. I understand it was designed to run at 95c but the noise to keep it at that temp with the stock cooler is unacceptable to me.

They are both great options. Keep in mind Nvidia just lowered the price of the 780s. Most of them are going to be the same price as the r290x. The r290x does perform slightly faster though.

I am a bit of a nvidia fanboy because I tend to start off with a single card then upgrade to sli when I can afford to. Nvidia sli has had better driver support than AMD crossfire in the past. I am not saying that is the case now or will be going forward but that is why I favor Nvidia now.

That's one game, and from what I gather AMD is the clear cut winner when it comes to Battlefield. But what about gaming in general? I play all kinds of games, not just Battlefield. Some say the 780 is faster, others say the 290x is faster, and then you have those who say they're equal. I can't get a straight answer, it seems. I don't buy into the "fanboyism" claims, as nothing in the discussion I started seems to indicate strong biases on behalf of the posters. Frankly, I think it's childish to make such accusations without first having solid proof.

So who is right and who is wrong? Is the 290x better than the 780 or is it not?

Just a bunch of nvidia fanboys. Proof? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4-ZU3ty63rg skip to 3:20.... faster and better for your money! Its a good price-performance deal. Not with the 780

That's one game, and from what I gather AMD is the clear cut winner when it comes to Battlefield. But what about gaming in general? I play all kinds of games, not just Battlefield. Some say the 780 is faster, others say the 290x, and then you have those who say they're equal. I can't get a straight answer, it seems. I don't buy into the "fanboyism" claims, as nothing in my discussion seemed to indicate strong biases on behalf of the posters. Frankly, I think it's childish to make that accusation without having solid proof.

Press on the tab then the game....290x wins in MOST of them.

I probably should've mentioned a post or two ago that I game at 1920x1080, which is a fairly standard (even low in some folks' eyes) resolution.

Those benchmarks were done at absurd resolutions in which case the 290x's extra gig of VRAM obviously plays a large role in its dominance. Even so, the 780 actually fared better in a couple games. How many people actually game at 3840x2160, much less have monitors that support that resolution (or anywhere near it)? I would wager that those benchmarks are relevant only to an incredibly small percentage of gamers.

The R9 290x is a better card. Better price per performance.
Either card will play game at ultra settings on a single monitor at 1080p. The R9 290x is better the higher the resolution.
The non-reference coolers for the R9 290x should start showing up in mid to late Nov.

It's up to you if you want to wait.
