Diagnosing Front Sound Port Problems

I have an asrock z87 Extreme 6 mobo and a crappy Sentey Extreme Division GS-6070 II Abaddom ATX Mid Tower Case. Which is more trouble than it's worth, trust me.

In any case, (I wish it was any other case) the front headphone/input ports on my case don't work and I have no idea where to even start diagnosing this. As far as I know it could be a problem with the OS (windows 7 pro 64-bit) and drivers (who knows!?!?!?), a problem with the motherboard (hidden option to turn on in the bios?), a problem with the connection (maybe I didn't put that plug in correctly after all?), or maybe the damn ports themselves don't work. (Cheap case. =( )

So any ideas on how to go about figuring out where the problem is would be much appreciated. I do not have another case sitting around I can just plug everything into, unfortunately.

then my best guess is you have a faulty front panel, either the jacks/connectors or the panel itself or its wires going to the motherboard shorted or broke inside the insulation. If you have an open/unused front bay, you can probably find a bay card/device that will also have front audio ports included........or contact Sentey and see about getting a replacement part for your case.

do you have anything you can plug in to the rear audio ports on the motherboard? If you can plug in speakers or a headphone back there and get sound, then the problem will likely be the front panel connections are wired incorrectly to the motherboard or the front panel jacks/ports or the front panel itself is defective.

edit: Refer to your case and motherboard manuals/documentation to verify your connections.

Yes, the rear sound all works fine. Also, when I plug mics/headphones into the front headphones, the bios registers them as plugged in. Still no sound. Mics/headphones work on other computers. Everything seems to be plugged in correctly. (I have checked the documentation)
