building an inexpensive desktop

I'm still trying to build an expandable but inexpensive unit. I would like a motherboard, cpu and case with good psu. I then want to use maybe 4gb ram
500 or so HD an inexpensive dvd player and writer. This (I think ) would allow use but then be upgradable to better performance.
Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Sorry but I guess I have a problem explaining. I want to build a computer with a good MoBo that can be used for gaming but not specific for gaming.
A cpu that will handle most all, I'm thanking a 4 core. A power unit high enough to not choke out. Only enough memory and HD to operate most items and a case that will be ready for the motherboard. with usb hookup's
and any suggestions that anyone may have.
