I was wondering would an i3 3220 cause a bottleneck in using a Radeon HD 7870 or HD 7850. I am have an old HD 6870 but the last time I used it it was crashing in any game after an hour at stock speeds, and think the i3 3220 is an underated CPU. If the 7870 is too much for this CPU, just mention something else noteworthy......but i would like to make use of the pci-e 3.0....

Solution

The i3 can keep up with the 7870 for the most part, however, I would get a 3570K sometime in the future as newer games are becoming more CPU-intensive.

Yea but maybe instead of a 3570k a haswell chip for more future proof

I have heard too many different opinions on the Haswell CPUs and seen a few benchmarks in which cases the heat temps are much different. So I am still undecided as yet to buy a Haswell unless the price was right. but If I were I would like the 4770k
