I need help trying to find out whether the graphics card and the CPU I am buying for my PC is compatible with my Slim model Dell Vostro 200. It is a fairly dated machine and I do not have the money to buy a whole new machine.

The GPU I am looking at:

The CPU:

Current Computer:
ftp://ftp.dell.com/Manuals/all-products/esuprt_desktop/esuprt_vostro_desktop/vostro-200_Owner%27s%20Manual2_en-us.pdf

Current Specs:
Pentium Dual Core 1.8 Ghz
4 GB DDR2 800 Mhz RAM
ATI HD Radeon 2400 Pro Low Profile

NOTE:
My PSU is 250 Watts and the card recommends 400 Watts. People have said it works fine on a 250 Watt PSU though.

Solution
It depends. Personally I would get a new PSU to avoid straining your current one which could throttle performance.

Also, you need to check whether the GPU would fit in that case.

I'm not sure which dimensions relate to which side, so you'll need to do that yourself. If it doesn't fit you would need to find a new GPU or case.

Oh, the PDF website that you linked to is not the card I am buying,
Here is the link to the one I am getting:
http://www.zotacusa.com/geforce-gtx-650-lp-zt-61008-10m.html

The one you listed is the full size while this one is the LP (Low Profile) card.

The problem is that this card looks a good bit bigger than my current card:

That card above is close to what my card looks like. The problem is that in that picture there is also another end that you can attach to make the card smaller, making it look like this:

That picture IS what my card looks like. It fits in my case but it is the biggest size I can get. It is close to the support beam across the center of the computer.

Oh! In one of the pictures on the ZotacUSA of the card shows a ribbon band connecting to another output. What it seems is that I can change the size of the card but then I can't use whatever that ribbon band connects to, which appears to be a normal VGA connection. That will leave me with a DVI connection. Luckily I have a DVI to dual VGA converter lying around! I can just remove that front plate and attach the shorter one and it should fit!

My bad! :)

So what I will probably do is get the GPU and CPU when I can and if I am having trouble I will look around for a better PSU. Thanks.
How do I mark a thread as solved? (Just joined today :))
