why do my graphics cards keep auto-overclocking themselves?

Okay, so I have two 770s running in SLI. When I was playing the new Batman: Arkham Origins and I decided to alt-tab out and look at my GPU clock and temp and saw that my GPU was 80 MHz over the core clock and running at 70 degrees C. This is actually a major problem, and it's not just for that game. I just tested it in Metro: Last Light and they're doing the exact same thing. What the heck is going on? (Using EVGA: Precision X to test. I also turned off Precision X during one instance to check it in HWiNFO and my temp just skyrocketed up to 80 so I just turned it right back on.)

Its ok for your cards to do that. They just do that whenever they feel they should. They use modified kepler which has GPU Boost 2.0. I dont like 80C...

Personally, I dont like GPU Boost 2.0 because I want to have full control over my clocks, so I'd mod the BIOS and make my own clocks up. All I need is two clocks, a 2D and a 3D. NVIDIA added that crap to make their cards easier for noobs and faster at stock..

Change the curve fan settings in EVGA precision and choose the fan speed you want at different temperatures, this way you can lower the temps and allow the card to overclockk itself to higher speeds with lower temps.
