I am going to be purchasing this monitor in the next week or so to use with a Playstation 4 system as well as my pc but I'm concerned as far as connecting my speakers and having them work across both the ps4 and pc. For the PS3 i just used the RCA cables that came with the system for audio and it worked fine but the ps4 wont come with those as it will only use HDMI. It has an optical out but the neither the monitor or my Z623 system has that.

So my question then is can i connect the speakers to the monitor with an aux cable to the PC Audio Line-In port pictured here http://www.asus.com/websites/global/products/2HXZjR1YHYisBKrM/io_port.jpg

and have it work ubiquitously with ps4 audio and pc depending on what i am using? If that won't be possible, please let me know any other methods that would work. Thanks

I dont think you understood what i meant. If i plug in the system to the monitor with HDMI i will get picture and sound, but the sound will be coming from the cruddy built in speakers which is not what i'd like to hear. What i want to know is if i can continue allowing video from hdmi but using separate speakers for sound connected directly to the monitor because i cannot connect them to the system itself.

Can you connect speaker to the monitor? Are you sure that is what those pluggins are for? For most monitors with speaker, those plugs are so you can get sound from their existing speakers, when not using HDMI. You'd have to be able to plug the speaker into your console for that to work.

Now that i think about it the green port on the mointor for pc audio would only work if i have the monitor connected to a pc with DVI and then connect the speakers to that port instead of the back of the computer although personally i always have my speakers connected directly into the motherboard at the I/O panel.

With the HDMI i wont be able to configure it where i have the audio coming through the speakers connected into the monitor unless there was an option on the monitor itself to not allow audio playback through hdmi but instead using the pc audio line in port. Only way i could use HDMI and have audio coming from my speakers is if i get the speakers to plug into the system directly and i change the options from the console settings like i have done with the ps3 rca cables. Unfortunately with the ps4 it wont come with rca cables and my only other option is the optical out. I guess i'll be needing an analog to digital converter of some kind to be able to use the AUX outputs on the sub and have those go through the converter and into the optical out for the ps4

Heres what the back of the sub looks like http://g-ecx.images-amazon.com/images/G/01/electronics/detail-page/B003VAHYTG_flexible-connectivity_lg.jpg

here is what the back of the ps4 looks like http://www.extremetech.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/ps4-back.jpg

The AUX there is for the proprietary playstation camera so i cant do anything with that, my only option is to work with the optical out

http://www.amazon.com/SANOXY%AE-AGPtek-Digital-Optical-Converter/dp/B005DIRI6I?tag=viglink121797-20 this is what i'll be using for the conversion, a bit of an annoying hurdle to go through now that Sony removed the AV cables but if it means using good speakers over built in its still worth it
