I have 6 available ram slots running triple channel, currently installed is 6gb (3x2gb gskill) but I have purchased a 12gb kit (3x4gb crucial ballistix) and I was wondering whether to just swap out the 6gb for the 12? Or will they run fine side by side to give me 18gb as the gigabyte mobo can support up to 24gb?

Start with the new set and get it running, (if 1600 or above, simply enable XMP in the BIOS and select profile 1),, then if all stable can try adding the older stick, may need a DRAM increase in voltage of + 0.05 to + 0.10 and may need a little extra voltage to the MC (memory controller)
