I am a Pro still photographer. Never done video but looking into expanding my commercial work. For continuity (use of EF lenses) I would like to use the canon eos c100 for the price, but do I need to get the c300 or c500. I an my accountant/my wife like the 100 price. I need the camera to not look like amateur hour when it is broadcast on national TV.
Hi ronk - for local broadcast, the
C100's 24mbps AVCHD compression and 4:2:0 color sampling are fine, and lots of local TV stations and production houses use this camera for promos and commercials. One caveat, however. The
C100 is 1080p only - and with 4K just around the corner, it may not be as future-proof as a
C300, which records to 4K externally, or a 4K capable
C500.
That said, for a Canon DSLR shooter stepping up to video, the
C100 is a great camera - especially for
$5449 body only.
Here is what this camera can do in a local TV broadcast situation (from C100/C300 shooter

You may also want to look at the
$12,000 Canon 1D C Cinema EOS Camera. Same form factor as your Canon DSLR, stunning 4K output, and $2000 less than the
$14,000 C300.

Hope this is helpful!
