Hello guys! IM SO IN AGONY now , i just realized my cpu is running at 1ghz , it's an i5 760 2.8ghz normally. I think my CPU has burnt or taken damage because of overheating... cause i had it run for 2 weeks at around 80C... All my games lagg that's how i found out :( Is there any way to fix this :( or do i need a new one like a cow?

Is the cpu still reporting a temp of 80c or more.
If so the darn thing is throttling to cope with heat.

Turn your fan speed up. And if using an Intel stock cooler change it out for a larger after market one.

Take a trip into the bios and see what the throttle trigger is set to in oC.

If you have it set to auto, then change it to manual and set a value higher.
if the the throttle trigger is set very low.

No it didn't it started running at 1ghz and 80-100C suddenly. I took off the fan , and there was no thermal paste left (or some dried) so i reapplied and the temps went down but the clock didn't go up . So i think it burned.

What do you run when you measure frequency and how do you measure frequency ? When cpu is not under load, it's ok to be clocked at below 1ghz. Many games won't even load your cpu to 100% which it turn will make your pc clock itself down.

I use Chrome (No rly?) only tomshardware, Skype , Spotify (not listening) , Steam , my antivirus AVG , my g19 logitech client console. It really shouldn't be at 80% anyways.

Check task manager, find out which program is hogging all of the usage.

Don't feel so entitled.

It's not that easy to diagnose. Honestly, your CPU is most likely the problem however it could also be your motherboard.

I just booted in safe mode , Windows and CPU-Z say i'm running 2.8GHZ! So i thought maybe it is a malware so i made a quick scan with malwarebytes , destroyed the files and rebotted the pc into normal. Still same problem, even tho in safe mode i was on 2.8ghz? Any help? I'm doing a full scan now just to be sure.
