New sata 3 board not detecting old sata 2 hard drive?

Just upgraded a few parts, including the motherboard, cpu, gpu and memory. however my old drive isnt being detected. ive tried sata 2 and 3 cables. my old optical drive is detected fine though. none of the power connectors are at fault either.

what could be the problem?

alrght. I just hooked t back up to the old system and it boots fine...

cant find the exact info for the drive but in the device manager it says "Samsung HD10357 ATA device"

Intel 4670 cpu
gigabyte r9 270x gpu
h87-hD3 gigabyte motherboard
corsair vengeance DDr3 2x 4gb
sony 24x speed optical drive
corsair 720w psu


old specs:
amd phenom x4 gpu
ati 4890 gpu
4gb 2x2gb kingston memory
corsair 720w psu
sony 24x speed optical drive

i should add that the drive has nt been wiped. it still has all my files on it. reason being that i have an oem copy of windows, and dont want to fork out more money for another copy if possible..

Does it spin at least? And not been detected means you don't see it in bios or that it's not booting?
