I just did a clean system install, I have the latest updates for my graphics car, the latest java for x64. My comp specs are AMD FX-8120 8 core processor, 8 gb of ram, 64 bit windows 7, and an amd 7770 graphics card. I have optifine installed for minecraft and have the max fps set in game and I am only getting from like 7 to 15 fps in game. I even set the java to high priority and that gave me like 2 more fps. I see people getting like 100 to 200 fps with minecraft, any suggestions on how to do that? I have been researching how to do it for a couple days now, and I can't figure it out. I think it is my graphics card that is capping the fps but i can't figure out what would be doing that.

If you have good cooling you could overclock your graphics card.

You could get a texture pack that has a lower resolution like 32 x 32.

You could also overclock you CPU since the fx series processor are quite good at it, but be careful don't overdo it as it may kill the cpu. I do recommend OCing though.

Try updating your drivers that usually works.

how do I force update it? i forgot to mention I am running forge, I am trying to do shaders. the shaders work and the texture packs work, but the only issue I am having is the FPS.

What I suggest you do is delete minecraft, reinstall it but dont add any mods, see whether it is fast or not, if it is then it was the mods.

If it is still running slow check if your monitor is connected to the actual graphics card and not the standard intergrated motherboard gpu.

If all connections are right, make sure you have downloaded the right version of java for e.g 32 bit or 64 bit.

ok, i reinstalled minecraft, than i slowly started adding back forge, than optifine, than texture packs (lb photo Realism), and all throughout I had around 40 to 70 FPS. I added each of those mods one at a time and than tested it after each time. i have not added the shadow mod yet. and yes, my monitor is connected to the hdmi port on my graphics card. Is there any way to get even more FPS through the graphics card itself?

You may not think this but minecraft can get very demanding especially with all these texture packs, shader, lighting, shadows and etc.
