Hello,

On my 64 bit windows 7 machine, I am unable to install 64 but Java at all, only 32 bit. When I run the 32 bit installer, it opens up and installs normally, but when I try to install the 64 bit version, I receive the UAC prompt like normal and nothing ever comes up, no flash of the installer or anything. To the best of my knowledge, no process is created and nothing happens at all, just the UAC and that's it. The same thing happens with the 64 bit Java development kit. If anyone has any ideas, please help. Thanks in advance.

Hello,

Thanks for your response. Yes, I'm sure I have a 64 bit OS, and yes I'm using Firefox, which to the best of my knowledge is 32 bit. But the 64 Bit version of Java, and the development kit should still install right?

Not too sure mate, but maybe have a nose around on their site and check the system requirements page or something - it might answer your question :)

Hello,

Sorry for the late reply, I was a little busy this past week. I have tried everything and still cannot even get the 64 bit java installer windows to open. No process is created after the UAC Prompt and nothing happens at all. As mentioned before, 32 bit installs normally. Thank you MopKap for your suggestions, and if anyone has anymore ideas, please tell me.Thanks everyone.

I'm sorry for asking but have you checked your Installed Software list to see that it is not installed?

And just a thought, why don't you use Internet Explorer to browse to the Java download page and let them get the installation going.

As far as I know, it is more of an issue getting 32-bit Java onto a 64-bit system that it is the other way around.

You haven't got 32-bit Windows on a 64-bit system, have you?

Also, I might suggest that if Java update is listed as a running process in Task Manager, perhaps you should 'End process' it.

And the last volley that I can muster for the moment is, create a new temporary 'User' account via Control Panel.

See if you can install 64-bit Java in the new account. If you can, do and then simply delete the new account.

It should install for 'all users'.

Hello,

I have checked my installed programs, and only 32 bit is listed, not 64 bit. My OS is definitely 64 Bit. I tried ending all java processes and installing, but it still refuses to even open. I tried the new account option, and the same thing happens. Thank you for your response. Is there anything else I can try? Is there any way for me to manually install Java 64 Bit?

Try disconnecting from the internet before you get the install process running.

You have downloaded the 'standalone installer for 64-bit Java', haven't you?

Are you trying to install from the Java site?

Google 'standalone installer for 64-bit Java', and download the package.

Disconnect from the web, turn off virus protection and firewalls, end all Java's 'running processes' (and any other processes you can temporarily do without and try to install Java 64-bit.

Also, did you try to download using Internet Explorer yet?

Explorer 10 can run in 64-bit mode and may be more willing to deal with the Java issue than Firefox is.

Give it a try if you haven't already.
