This has been an ongoing problem since I first got the laptop that has never truly been resolved and I feel like it's about time I got rid of it. So my laptop is pretty decent and can run games like Crysis 3 no problem. But for some reason, some games will have a problem. The game will run fine for a random amount of time (10 minutes - 2 hours) and then it will simply freeze and give me a black screen. I close the game with task manager (if it doesn't close on it's own) and I get the infamous notification "Your display driver has stopped responding and has recovered." This happens with random games such as Sleeping Dogs, Minecraft, Sniper Elite, Garrys Mod. Although Minecraft was fixed after one of it's updates. I've lost countless saves because of this.

My specs:
HP Pavilion Dv6 Notebook
Windows 7 64 Bit
Intel Core i7-2670QM CPU @ 2.20 GHz
4 GB Ram
Radeon HD 7690M XT

I have not overclocked my computer or opened it up to do any fiddling, except that I went into BIOS to set my laptop to only use the Radeon card instead of the shitty intel one. I'm guessing the problem is possibly caused by overheating as the laptop feels hot whenever this happens, even though I have a logitech cooling fan under it.

I have also tried updating my drivers today but nothing seemed to work despite several online solutions. Check windows updater and got nothing. Then I downloaded the latest driver I could find here http://driverscollection.com/?H=Radeon%20HD%207690M%20XT&By=AMD and even after running the exe and installing it, the driver remains the same according to device manager. I uninstalled CCC and ran the exe and still didn't work. And when I try install the Mobility Centre I got from the AMD website, it tells me it can't install it because of my hardware. It honestly feels like AMD's graphics cards are the most rage inducing cards ever.

I have also tried the Timeout Detection solution here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2665946 and the only difference is that now the game (Sleeping Dogs) will still be running except for a black screen. The game still crashes and it still has to be reset.

It seems like the only way to find a solution now is to ask for help specific to my computer and problem because I have found nothing after days on Google. This has been a problem for so long and now it's stopping me from playing my newest games I've had just had enough. Please can anyone help me?

Have you even used it yourself? It's just another one of those bullshit things that scan your computer, says everything is out of date and then makes you pay to download all the free drivers.

Yesterday when I was testing it out I had Sleeping Dogs running in windowed mode while I was using Chrome. I had it there for a good hour, and then when I went back to the game (still in windowed mode) it crashed after I started driving for 10 seconds. So it didn't crash until the game was processing something, it's also possible the issue is caused by overheating. Using Hardware Monitor it says my graphics card is about 75 degrees when it crashes. I already have a cooling fan under my laptop, and I've tried blowing in the vents but it isn't very dusty... I also tried this solution http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nkxcO0kfhGY but didn't fix it.
