I'm wanting to upgrade my video card so I can play games like BF3 on at least high. Sadly I can't overclock my cpu because my motherboard doesn't support it. I'm just trying to get the best out of my cpu.

More about : upgrading gpu intel q6600 40ghz

Can you give more info on your other parts, so we can recommend GPU or other parts for your system.

1 more GB RAM and a new PSU will be needed also.

How much is your budget? New RAM, GPU and PSU will cost you around 200-250 $

I'm willing to spend about £200 in total but I don't mind spending a bit more like £20 - £50

An extra 1Gb of memory won't go amiss, that way the system can take full advantage of the dual channel configuration it can handle.
Top choice depends on how hard you want to push that budget but if you look hard you should be able to find the HD7970 for just over £200 and the HD7950 for under £180.
I'd suggest you look for a decent HD7950, it's nearly as fast as the 7970 and a little cheaper.
AVIOD the single fan HD 7xxx cards, they run hot and noisy, and the XFX DD cards can be a little loud under load as well-check my specs by hovering the pointer over my Aragorn-I know of what I speak.
Both will need a decent 500Watt or greater PSU with dual 8 pin (or dual 6+2 pin) PCI-E leads to run them.
A few places to shop: Aria, Scan, Overclockers, CCL, Pixmania, Microdirect, Novatech, Dabs and Ebuyer.
Try to go for a good maker for the power supply: OCZ, Antec, Corsair, XFX, Seasonic, FSP or Silverstone.

the cpu is going to limit you a fair amount in many games. no point going higher than a 7750 really (should run on your 300w psu), you will be majorly cpu bottlenecked. I found my old c2Q 6600 oc'd to 3ghz bottlenecked a 6850 (7770 equivelant). If you planned to upgrade your motherboard and everything else later then you can get whatever gpu you want now, but i would be recommending a full system upgrade.

Thanks I think I'll get a 7950.
