I'm about to build my first PC, here are the following specs:
CPU: i5 4670k 3.4ghz
MoBo: GA-Z87X-D3H
RAM: Corsair vengeance 8GB 1600mhz
CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo
Video Card: Gigabyte GTX760 2GB windforce
Wireless Network Card: Asus PCE N15
Case: Corsair 300r
PSU: Corsair 600m
Hard Drive: WD1002FAEX 1TB (didn't purchase this, used it from my last PC)
OS: Windows 7 Home Premium OEM

(Once i've installed Windows 7) Before I start installing things, I've read I should carry out some tests on my system to make sure everything's running properly. I call out to you, forum as a request for suggestions on tests I should run - I know of memtest, but that's it.
Much appreciation,
Thanks.

When first built, it's not a bad idea to run a stress test like Prime for a few hours anyway, it will stress the system so hopefully if any weak component they will show up and allow you time to exchange or return through your seller within the exchange period, if you don't test and just start playing games, and something is weak and gives out it may be shortly after the return/exchange period then you are left to deal with the manufacturer under warranty/RMA and depending on who that can stretch into weeks...I always stress systems with Prime before delivery to clients (as do all the builders and IT folks I know, it's just common sense)

My friend built his first PC a week ago and ran no tests on his - installed drivers, games, software, etc. and then received random BSOD's - said one of them was to do with a Bad Pool Header and Memory Management (whatever they are)? So Im scared that might happen to me

No it doesn't ;) it's more load than the system will normally encounter and is used to weed out weak components, I don't know a single builder, and very few IT folks that build in house - that don't do it - who want to have to deal with manufacturers?

Should I install drivers before I stress test or just stress test it once windows is installed?

I have never met a system builder who would bother . Fan boys maybe .

There is no point stressing a system beyond the load you expect in everyday use . It proves nothing and can give you the impression your cooling system can not cope when it is perfectly adequate

OP: install the drivers from the mb as soon as you have windows up and running . Then install the graphics driver .

No need to do more

Well for those that do it in part for a living as part of their business, don't want them coming back and having to take care of things for their clients, I know I don't, maybe casual PC builders might, but good ones who in part make money from building don't want to lose what they've made with parts failing, not to mention the possibility of losing a client
