Hi, I need to update my graphic card on my PC, the following is the Main Driver and version vga.dll version 5.01.2600.0000. My system check indicated that the manufactures details is n/a. Hence I am not able to got to the manufactures website to get a free driver update. Is it possible to update this graphic card with a free download, and if so where would I find that? Thank you, kind regards.

vga.dll is just a generic driver to get ANY video card up and running. You need to find out what kind of video card you have first and then install that drives. If its a Name Brand PC go to the manufacure website and search downloads for your PC. If its a Custom Built and you are using Onboard video then you need to search the Motherboard maker Website. if its an Add-in video card then open up your case, see what card it is (Nvida or AMD) and go to their website and do an automatic driver check.

What kind of PC is that and how old is it? If its an old PC with a new version of windows like 7 on it their may not be any vista,7,8 drivers for it and you are stuck with having a generic video driver.

Hi drtweak

Thank you for a prompt response. The mother board model is Biostar Group- P4m89-M7B, anufacture - Phoenix Technologies Ltd, Release date 8/2/2007, Version P4m890-42302e31. Looks like I will have to open the cover and check for the graphic card. Is it like a credit card slotted somewhere? It runs windows XP. the PC was put together in 2007, it has an Intel(R) Pentium(R) Dual CPU E2140 @ 1.60 GHz. Thx again Siven

Dear drtweak, Again sorry for a late response only got to sit with the information today. Thank you soooo much, your help was priceless, you have no idea how thankful i am. My daughter is over the moon. Thank you once again, Cheers Siven

what laptop? again the VGA.dll drive is just GENERIC drivers because you don't have the right ones installed. Go to the Support page of the laptop maker and search for your model. They will then have a selection for your version of windows and then look for VGA/Display drivers. Download, install, and enjoy.

BUT if it's and old video card, and your install windows vista or 7 their may not be a driver for it and there is nothing you can do about that.

I had the same problem downloaded Slim Drivers (free) . Installed it and ran a scan. Downloaded the update installed it and restarted the computer. Slim Drivers found the update and corrected the problem! Hope this helps.
