HDD not powered through usb/sata connector

Ok so i have a usb/sata adapter that when i plug it up the access light comes on but the power light doesnt. I would connect it to my power supply but the usb adapter takes up both spots. also the there are 2 usb wires. i plug both of them in and it still wont come on! Please Help!!

Are you trying to power a Desktop hard drive or a Laptop/SSD? If its a Desktop Hard drive won't work with out an external power supply. Only Laptop/SSD will work off USB power.
