comp. takes forever to start.

the last month or so computer takes about 5 hours to fire up. then through the day starts up normally. please i'm over 70 so plain english will be appreciated.alan.

5 hours? I don't even know where to begin.

Have you had anyone do any sort of hard drive maintenance? Do you remember making a major change to hardware or software before this started happening?

the only thing i have done , but it was a while ago i downloaded a program for the printer (canon) i have looked at msconfig and start but not game to take anything off.there is quite a list.comp. works fine but
would be great if it would start straight away.

Well, I would try running some disk cleanup programs like CCleaner and Defraggler. It's hard to say what is causing it to take 5 hours to fully boot.

If it literally takes 5 hours to start up, the only thing I'd suggest is a full reinstall.

There are multiple things going on, and finding all of them is an iffy proposition. And you may never know if you've found all the problems.
Defrag (full hard drive?), virus, etc, etc, etc.

What PC, what operating system, etc?

i do the c cleaner every week , it tells me de frag. happens auto ever wed. thanks for all help, might be a job for expert. it's a compaq 32 bit wind. 7 ultimate.
