Which processor is better for gaming?

Solution
I have an old Athlon 5200+ kicking around somewhere. On games like Oblivion it struggled even on the lowest settings. The Athlon 62 x2 line of CPUs is over 7 years old. They were pretty decent in their day, but you can't expect them to run much from the last few years at playable frame rates. If it is a choice between those two cpus or nothing, then get the athlon. However if you let us know your budget and if you need a monitor, keyboard, windows ect then maybe we could let you know of other options.
You'll only be able to play very old games with either of those cpus. I'd say the Athlon 64 x2 3800+ would be better by virtue of being a dual core. Although if you can find one for cheap on ebay, I'd recommend the Athlon 64 x2 5200+. Either way they are all very old cpus.

Alright thanks you for the feedback, also, will the Athlon 64 x2 5200+ fit my motherboard?

Maufacturer: MSI
Model: AMETHYST-M 1.0
Chipset: ATI XPRESS 200 (RS480) REV. 10
Southbridge: ATI SB400

also on the first tab of cpu-z it says socket 939 if that helps

My budget is very slim. I am planning on playing the game Combat Arms. My friend update his Anthlon 5000+ to have a Radeon 6670 graphics card, 6GB RAM, and a 550W power supply and his game runs flawlessly on mid-settings. I want to do the same but my processor is a Anthlon 3800+. I'm just not sure if after i upgrade the graphics and whatnot i will be able to play without lagging.

Well, try upgrading that first. No matter how you look at it, you'll be paying way too much for an old CPU unless you can snag one cheap on ebay. You could get an HD 6570 for around 50.00 and it should be more than enough to handle Combat Arms.

You are in tough position and really need to step it up in the hardware department, most certainly the motherboard which will allow you a smarter selection of processors to choose from, you could make large gains in gaming performance just by using a inexpensive AM3+ motherboard and FX 4300 CPU along with the GPU of your choice but you are kinda stuck until you change out the main board..
