I recently purchased this card, MSI N770 TF 4GD5/OC, and one of the first things I did was run Batman: Arkham Origins on it. I know the card has incredible capability so I maxed out the settings in all categories including high PhysX settings and using GeForce TXAA high at a resolution of 1360x768 which is all my LCD TV can handle. I know that using these things takes a toll on the card, but all the reviews I read stated that this card runs in the low to mid 70s. I ran MSI afterburner, with no additional overclocking just to monitor temps, and the card stayed at 80C. It would not come down unless I ran a fan profile for 100% and even then I struggled to keep it at 78C with an ambient temperature in the case of 28C. I played again today and moved the AA to MSAA x8 and turned off the PhysX and my card still stayed at 79C. I'm worried my card isn't cooling properly and I got this as a long-term investment so I don't want heat shortening the lifespan.

Does anyone think I got a card with a bad cooling system? Does anyone else have this model and can confirm that theirs reaches these temps as well under certain conditions?

My Rig: Alienware Aurora R3
Intel P67 MicroATX (P/N: 46MHW, 046MHW, DF1G9)
Intel i7 2600k @ 3.4Ghz (Stock boost clock, not overclocked)
Samsung quad channel 8GB DDR3 @ 1333 Mhz 1.5V 9-9-9-25
2x 500GB WD Caviar / 1x Seagate Hybrid 500GB
MSI GTX 770 TF 4GD5/OC (Stock Clock)
- Nvidia Driver 331.65
- PCIe 3.0 card running at 2.0 in my system
Onboard Sound

If you need any other info let me know! Thank you all for any advice on this issue.

Solution
80C is not a dangerous temp for a 770.
But i think the reason this card runs those temps is because you haven't changed your GPU Boost settings, wich will overclock your card to as high as possible as long as it stays at temps under 81 degrees (so 80C max)

Open up your Nvidia driver and change your max temp for GPU Boost to something you find comfortable running.

Again, 80C is not dangerous.

Hope i helped,

I found the exact setting you were talking about in MSI Afterburner. I went in and saw that it was not set to stop at 79C. I changed the setting and now it is preventing 80C. I also noticed that my case ambient temperature was rising. Leave it to Alienware to set a fan profile so low that it doesn't circulate air out of the case. Because the Twin Frozr was just dumping off hot air into the case it was cooking the card. I adjusted the case fan speed and now I've got it holding steady at 74C.

Thank you immensely for you response, I know now how to control the temperature on the card.
