I really need some advice on a new GPU.

Okay guys Im gonna try to keep this concise and easy to answer.

I am upgrading from a Matrix GTX 580 with 1.5GB of VRAM. I feel like it has been two years, and I am ready to step up.

I have been pretty set on buying a GTX 770. Specifically one of these two:

After some thought though, I am really feeling like I should just spend the extra money and get a 780.

I plan on playing BF 4 on Ultra settings (I want to be at 60 fps or higher), and I do run two monitors, although one of them is more for side activites during games.

So heres my first question: If i go with the cheaper option, should I go for a 770 or the R9 280x Toxic.

And second question, should I just go with the 780? Or is the 290x a better option. It seems the 780 wins out in a lot of benchmarks, plus the 780 is 510 and comes with 3 free games.

Also, is the FTW version worth the extra ~40 dollars it would cost me?

I really do not mind spending more money on the 780 but if the performance difference is not worth the 150 dollar difference in price, then I wont.

Edit: One more thing, keep in mind I am not interested in just "being okay for Battlefield with the 2GB 770" . I want a bit of future proofing and something that will really last me and push the games, but isnt ridiculously priced.

You can see that the 770 almost gets 60fps average on ultra BF4 at 1080p. The minimum dips are unfortunate, but not totally horrible. If you want to play games as demanding as BF4 on ultra at 1080p with some future proofing, a 780 would be the minimum I would guess.

The 770 is much better value but if you want to play bf4 and be slightly future proof go with the 780 but you MIGHT want to wait until the r9 290x or gtx 780 ti comes out because it might drive the price of the gtx 780 down
also you do not need the superclocked or ftw cards just make sure the cooler is fairly good and overclock it yourself.

Expect more of that with the Frostbite engine games in development. But not all games favor AMD cards. The 3 free games with the 780 is good too. Its also runs cooler and quieter.

The 3gb on the 780 is supposed to make a difference on new games, the 780's also use superior cooling systems and can be pretty quiet.

NewEgg has the SC 580 with the new cooling system for 510 plus the 15 off from the discount AND a 10 dollar rebate so essentially 485 before tax.

In addition I just want to make sure, it is not worth it to pay 540 for the FTW edition correct? (If I go the 780 route).

I really do liek the cooling system and the form factor of the 780 too

Currently the R9 290X feels and sounds like a jet engine in your PC, so if you can't wait for one with a better cooler, go with the 780 as long as it's not the reference design.

I don't think 1 or 2 frames extra is worth all the extra noise you get from the AMD card.

Okay so I am definitely going with the 780 now.

Now I have to decide between the SC ACX Cooler:

I really like the design of the EVGA, and I am just wondering if anything on the latter two cards warrant paying 50 or 60 more for them. I know that the FTW has two BIOS but like I said, it is 55 more before tax. I also know that the non SC version also has two BIOS, and is only 5 dollars more, but maybe will allow potential for better OC ??

I'd get the cheapest of the three, because even if the more expensive ones are faster in some way or run cooler, it won't give you significantly more fps.

Sorry i edited my post as you replied, does the regular two bios version I listed for 520 offer any significant improvements for OC? Or should I stick with the already SC for 485. Sorry for so many questions, it is a lot of money to spend want to make sure it is the right choice.

i don't think there is a need for dual bios unless you have your heart set on messing with the voltages a lot. the regular ACX is a much better deal. the regular acx already comes with a great overclock and you aren't going to get much more out of a GTX 780.

and the difference in price is like $40
