Hey everyone, i'm putting together a gaming rig for around $1600 that I am planning to OC when I get it. My question to you guys is whether this build is compatible. I'm pretty new to this so go easy :)

This is the parts list I have thrown together:

Gigabyte AMD Radeon R9 270X 2GB Overclocked Video Card
Intel Core i5 4670K Quad Core LGA 1150 3.4GHz CPU Processor
Corsair Vengeance Low Profile CML8GX3M2A1600C9 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3
ASUS H87M-PLUS Motherboard
Thermaltake SMART 550W 80Plus Bronze Power Supply
Samsung 840 Pro Series 256GB 2.5" Solid State Drive/SSD
Thermaltake Frio Universal CPU Cooler
Fractal Design Define R4 Black Case
Lian-Li CF-1412A 140mm Blue LED Fan 1200RPM x2

Thanks in advance!

Solution
There are three things that you could change:

1. If your going to OC and game, get a motherboard with the Z87 chip-set. I would recommend the Asus z87-Deluxe
2. I would recommend a bit more powerful PSU for your graphics card. A 650W perhaps
3.It might be worth getting a HDD, because your SSD could fill up rather quickly!!!

Hope this helps!

Thank you so much for your rapid response! I've taken your suggestions on board and purchased my parts a minute ago :) so ty. I also opted for the Pro version of the motherboard as the deluxe was a little out of my price range.

Thank you again!

P.S Could you tell me what your rig is like when you've built it? I'm planning to build a similar rig XD

Not a problem, the least I could do! The build will take place this Friday and will let you know how it goes then. I'll be running bf4 straight away :p

Hey Aspire,

Just letting you know how to build went and how the system performs. Build went pretty smooth, probably could have done it faster if my mate didn't bring a case around to drink while we did it :p

Only hiccup i came across was that the GPU didn't want to work for me straight away - had some weird graphic artifacts popping up (wasn't plug and play) and the drivers wouldn't installed correctly without the GPU installed. So I booted using iGPU, went into BIOS, changed primary display to iGPU (not auto), shut down. Installed GPU, reboot, install GPU drivers (worked as the GPU was plugged in). Reboot, back into BIOS, changed setting from iGPU to PCIE. Reboot, and worked :) Might have been a rookie mistake from me but i'm still learning :p

BF4 looks amazing in ultra even in stock settings, FPS around 50 which is amazing. But i bought it to OC, so did a bit of fiddling.

Got a stable clock of 4.5ghz at around 1.3V, temps were awesome too. Only problem i found is this: http://www.tomshardware.com/answers/id-1877899/overclock-wont-hold-gpu-installed-access-bios-afterward.html

So i'm still trying to work through that last problem to get a stable OC while the GPU is in. Once that is done, happy days with an awesome rig.
